Pack's Taua a Candidate for Doak Walker Award

Nevada football running back Vai Taua is among the 45 candidates for the 2009 Doak Walker Award, the SMU Athletic Forum announced.

Taua, a junior who led the Western Athletic Conference with 1,521 yards and scored 15 touchdowns last season, is one of two WAC running backs on the list, joining Louisiana Tech senior Daniel Porter.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of proving that my name belongs on that list, which includes some of the top players in the country," Taua said in a release. "We have a lot of talented backs on our team and one of the best offensive lines you could ask for. We're ready to show what we can do."

On Monday, quarterback Colin Kaepernick was named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award watch list.

Nevada opens fall camp on Friday. The opener is Sept. 5 at Notre Dame.
