Bingham RB Langi To Play In Army All-American Bowl

Bingham High School running back Harvey Langi was selected to play in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which features the nation's top 90 high school football players.

"Harvey is a talented athlete whose exemplary leadership and teamwork qualities have made him a standout at Bingham High School," said Col. Derik Crotts, Director of Strategic Communications, Marketing and Outreach, U.S. Army Accessions Command. "The strength, dedication, leadership and teamwork skills necessary to succeed on the football field are the same qualities mirrored in Army Strong Soldiers. We are proud to honor all of our U.S. Army All-American Bowl players and congratulate them on their selection."

Langi was selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which consists of All American Games' network of regional directors, Rivals.com and Tom Lemming. U.S. Army All-American players are eligible for the U.S. Army Player of the Year Award, the Anthony Muñoz Lineman of the Year Award, the Pete Dawkins Game MVP Award, and the Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard U.S. Army Awards.

As a result of Harvey Langi being selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, his head coach David Peck is invited to travel to San Antonio and attend the U.S. Army Coaches Academy, an elite three-day learning experience featuring NFL and NCAA coaches, as well as participate in game-week activities.

The game will be played on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The annual East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 11:00 a.m.

The game also crowns the U.S. Army Player of the Year during Bowl Week in San Antonio.

Harvey Langi Impresses @ L.A. NIKE Camp

Harvey Langi has already established himself as the top prospect in his home state of Utah. After an impressive performance at L.A.'s NIKE Camp, he is quickly establishing himself as one of the top running backs in the nation in the 2011 class.

Langi is a powerful running back with excellent balance, and he does a good job of keeping his feet clear of traffic on the ground, whether it's by a quick hop or a cut around diving arm tackles. He is a big back that smaller defenders have trouble wrapping up with the combination of his size and balance as they tend to slip off of him. Is more likely to knock a defender down than out run one, but can avoid traffic with good vision- Scott Kennedy

Harvey Langi: Travels East to Compete

Running back Harvey Langi (Bingham, Utah/South Jordan) made the 2,560-mile trip to Coral Gables to compete at the event, which annually is among the most loaded Nike Football Training Camp.

He played quite well, earning running back MVP honors and displaying good hands and athleticism during the drills.

"Traveling here was the worst part," he said. "We had to stop in Atlanta and got mixed up on a couple of flights over there and flew in here Saturday morning, but coming here was worth it. I just wanted to come out here and check out the competition and the speed. The competition is wild. So many kids have so much talent. All my time here was worth it. They treated every individual special and coached all of us."

With the 6-2, 220-pounder's skill in the passing game, it's possible he could end up playing H-back or somewhere besides running back in college, which is fine with Langi.

"I just want to work on everything," said Langi, who might even play some defense this season. "If a coach needs something here, something there, I will go play it. I want a bunch of tools in my toolbox."


Langi holds offers from BYU, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Stanford, UCLA.

"I am going to go out and travel and see what I can do," Langi. "I always go to camp out west and see schools out there, but I wanted to come (to Miami) to see what the competition here was all about."

Four of Langi’s teammates have already committed to BYU -- Baker Pritchard, Kesni Tausinga, Manoa Pikula and Moses Kaumatule.

Those close to Langi say he wants to wait at least a few more months before deciding, but already it appears that he’s going to be the most-recruited player in the state this year.
